Policy Statement
Generative AI is rapidly changing the higher education landscape. Generative AI technologies have the potential to both enhance and diminish teaching and learning, promote greater accessibility and support innovation. It is important to note that their use raises important questions related to academic integrity, privacy, ethics, sustainability, and fairness. The University recognises that various forms of artificial intelligence are reshaping society and the world in which we live. Generative AI can serve legitimate academic purposes in research and learning and therefore the University does not seek to prohibit its use outright by students. Critically engaged generative AI literacy is an essential contemporary skill. It is imperative that we equip our students with the abilities required to responsibly navigate generative AI use and interrogate its outputs.
